An Experienced Local Leader, Who Understands the “Community” in Community College.

Tony Watson has deep connections in the Santa Clarita Community. He grew up in Saugus, graduating from Saugus High School, from College of the Canyons, and from the Master’s University. He’s an experienced volunteer, having served numerous local nonprofit organizations, including K-12 schools, and has worked in high-level positions at local businesses. His community network is WIDE, and he has used it to benefit students and COC, a practice he will continue. Tony supports programs leading to improved transfer, graduation and completion rates. With input from local businesses, he will help the college increase student internships and opportunities for work experience, which he says are critical for getting good jobs. He plans to uses his network to help the college expand community partnerships.

  • A passionate advocate of low-cost tuition, fees and textbooks, providing affordable college opportunities to everyone who wants to attend.
  • A supporter of a diverse faculty, administration and staff to be advocates and role models for our increasingly diverse student body. He is fluent in Spanish.
  • A widely experienced, effective board member, having served on many local community boards.
  • A practical, can-do person, who understands policy, administration, finance, checks, balances and fiscal accountability.

He is a unifier and a listener, known for creating teams, bringing people together, bridging differences and developing understanding and civil dialog between people of diverse backgrounds and opinions.

Tony Watson understands and loves our community and our community college. Santa Clarita needs his breadth of community involvement to bring THE COMMUNITY’S VOICE to the college’s Board of Trustees.
